10 kg gold cargo missing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel airport Ahmedabad

A packet of ten kg gold, worth Rs two crore, was found missing from the Air Cargo Complex at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here.

According to Meghaninagar police today, a consignment of 20 packets of gold, meant for gold importer MMTC, had arrived by Singapore airlines at the airport on May 7.

The Customs had cleared the consignment and it was about to be delivered. Officials of the Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited (GSEC), which handles operations for Customs at the cargo complex, found one of the packets missing during the checking yesterday.

The loss of the gold cargo has intrigued the concerned officials as the Air Cargo Complex is considered to be high security zone with CCTV and other facilities. The camera footage was not useful as the camera angles were not set properly, the police pointed out. GSEC authorities have lodged a complaint with the Meghaninager police station. The police is still making investigations and do not rule out the possibility of either a mistake by the officials at the complex or a theft.
